Babak Bakhtiari was born in Iran in 1963 in a small, progressive community where soccer was played daily in bare feet starting at young ages with a handmade soccer ball. He is from the small town of Haft Tapeh in the state of Khozestan, which was known for producing valuable soccer players at the national level. His career started in 1980 when his high school won the state championship. At the young age of 17 he earned national recognition on the U20 Jr. National team. By the time he was 19 he played for the National Championship of Iran. Babak was well known and was featured in many sports articles for his fast, aggressive striker style.
